NTU's School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences have the Evac Chair and skills to potentially save lives

The evacuation chairs have been installed by Escape Consult Mobiltex (S) Pte Ltd at Nanyang Technological University's School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences to provide a safer escape for students and staff with mobility problems in an emergency.

Ms Chen Xiaoping, Fire and Safety Co-ordinator at School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, said: “The installation of evacuation chairs has been an important addition to our existing approach to emergency evacuation and training. Providing personalised support for students and staff with mobility problems is crucial, not only in terms of accessibility, but also in emergency evacuation.”

The NTU's personalised emergency evacuation plans incorporate thorough training, drills and consultation ensuring the newly-fitted chairs serve their purpose in the event of an urgent situation.

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences have used the Evac Chair successfully in the recent fire drill conducted on 2nd November 2011. The School achieves safety in distinctiion and is very reassuring to know that they have the necessary equipment and skills to potentially save lives.
